So you’re going to Float! Fantastic. It’s a new experience that you’ll find to be incredibly relaxing & a special ‘quiet space’ where you can completely switch off and detach from your busy outside world!

If it’s your first time in a float pod we recommend that you plan for three float pod sessions, scheduled approximately 1 to 4 weeks apart. Although there are many exceptions, generally it can take up to 3 floats to receive the full benefits of floating and get accustomed to the process and the new feeling of truly letting go. We offer packages to help reduce the cost of multiple float sessions for you to really enjoy the full experience floating has to offer.

On the day…you will be given water to ensure that you are well hydrated before the float, followed by a 5 minute introduction with a little history about floatation pods, and how to receive the maximum benefits from your session(s). Please feel free to ask any questions about floating at this time. Then you will be asked to shower, and you must be 100% clean prior to entering the tank. Once your hour is up, the music will gently start playing to let you know it is time to exit the pod. The spa is well supplied with organic shampoo, conditioner, body wash & moisturisers, along with blow dryers. Once you return to the reception, we have green tea waiting for you after your float.

Please plan on spending 1.5 hours with us for a 1 hour float so you can catch your breathe when you arrive and enjoy a tea and collect your thoughts before you continue on with your day.

No doubt you’ve got a few questions. Here is what you need to know.

  1. DON’T SHAVE BEFOREHAND (GUYS AND GIRLS)

Do not shave for at least 2 to 4 hours prior to your float pod session. Entering salt water after shaving can sting for up to 10 minutes.

  1. SKIP THE MAKEUP AND PERFUME

Dress in things that you feel the most comfortable in, please avoid perfumes and essential oils before coming to float. We have a shower in the float room to rinse off your body before your float, so skip any heavy make-up, and excessive hair products.

  1. ONLY EAT LIGHT BEFORE FLOATING

Food: it’s best to not be hungry or very full before floating, somewhere in the middle is just right.

  1. COOL IT ON THE STIMULANTS

Avoid alcohol and stimulants like caffeine, tea or smoking at least three hours prior to entering the floatation tank. This will assist you in letting go and truly relaxing. You won’t be allowed in the pod if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  1. BE MINDFUL OF YOUR EARS

If you have swimmers ear, are prone to ear infections or any inner ear condition that may be irritated by water, please bring your own ear water specific plugs, we supply standard, silicon disposable ear plugs only.

  1. DON’T BRING A THING

We supply towels, organic shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face & body moisturisers, disposable ear plugs, hair dryer, tea and purified water. You can bring any special lotions or cosmetics you care to use after your float.

  1. YES, NAKED IS BEST

You do not need to bring a bathing suit as it is preferable to float in your birthday suit.

  1. BRING YOUR OWN MUSIC

If you wish to listen to your own music (nature sounds, guided meditation, etc.), please let us know when making your appointment to float and bring any MP3 saved on your smart phone (YouTube / Spotify also works). Music is a uniquely personal experience, like floating, so we ask clients to bring what they love. The floatation tanks are equipped with audio. (It is not recommended to float with sound on your 1st few floats, since it is best to get accustomed to floatation therapy, before adding audio)

9. IT’S OK TO FALL ASLEEP

The density of the salt in the float pod is such that it will always support you, regardless of your size or weight. Basically, it is not possible to drown in the pod! If you were to turn over the salt in the water would sting your eyes and wake you, so drowning is not possible. Since you are floating you do not need to know how to swim. Additionally, it’s not dangerous to fall asleep in the pod, actually; it’s even encouraged to fall asleep in the floatation pod – one hour of delta sleep is equivalent to 6 to 8 hours of very deep sleep.

10. THE SPACE IS MUCH BIGGER THAN YOU THINK.

It is very unlikely that you will become claustrophobic. The space inside the floatation pod is approximately 1.5m wide by 2.5m long, and you are in complete control and can go in and out as you wish. You may even float with the door open if you like. Since there is an absence of sensation, space and time so it is difficult to feel claustrophobic within the pod.

11. THE WATER IS THE CLEANEST YOU CAN GET.

There is over 500kg’s of medical grade Epsom salt (pure magnesium sulphate) dissolved in the pod. Salinity is at 1.37 grams per cubic centimetre. The solution is so high in saline that no living microorganism can survive in there. After each session, the entire volume of the solution is pumped out and filtered through a three part filtration and sterilization system utilizing Ultra Violet light, a 5 micron filter and H2O2. UV is the safest most effective system available. It maintains the water’s soft, clean and crystal clear appearance. In addition all clients are required to be 100% clean prior to entering the pod.

12. IT’S NOT MEANT FOR TWO

Even though it may look tempting (and big enough!) only one person is allowed in the pod at any one time. Floatation therapy is a solitary act, you would not want another person in your pod.

13. PREGNANT WOMEN LOVE IT

Due to the weightless effect in the tank, pregnant women in the later stages of pregnancy have found floatation tank therapy to be one of the best available pain relief therapies available, so yes, it’s safe to float if there is a baba floating in your belly (remember that the water is a safe temperature at 36 decrees Celsius). Although if you have any specific concerns, we always recommend that you consult your physician before floating.

14. DON’T FLOAT IF YOU’RE ILL

You should not float if you are presently ill, have incontinence, kidney problems, epilepsy or have an active skin condition. Clients will not be allowed to float if they have recently dyed hair OR brightly dyed hair (as the ink can potentially leach into our very clean water, causing discoloration). People with severe medical conditions or are pregnant, should consult their physician before floating.

15. ALWAYS LET US KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON

Clients are responsible for notifying staff if they are on any medications that may affect their ability to float safely (ie., medications whose side effects include lowered blood pressure, vertigo, nausea, or extreme drowsiness). FLOAT customers will be not allowed to float while under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.

If you are under the care of a physician for any severe illness or are pregnant, you will be required to notify staff. A doctor’s clearance may be required before floating.

If we think you won’t be suitable for a Float Pod Session we’ll tell you (we reserve the right to refuse this service to anyone) – but our experience so far is that most people love it!

Enjoy your floatation therapy session with @saltfloatstudio!
